Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-17 · DRAFT — counsel review pending
§1 What this policy covers
This AUP applies to anyone accessing Etymolt: the API, the ChatGPT Custom GPT Action, the MCP server, the web app, and the Forge engagement surface. By using any of these you agree both to our Terms of Service and this AUP.
§2 Prohibited uses
You may not use Etymolt to:
- Trademark-launder. Submit a candidate name you know infringes an existing mark in order to obtain an Etymolt verdict you can wave at counsel, investors, or a USPTO examiner as evidence of clearance. Our verdicts are a signal, not a defense; using them to manufacture good faith is a misrepresentation we will not support.
- Defame or harass. Submit names, queries, or annotations intended to defame, threaten, or harass any identifiable person or entity. This includes generating fake verdicts to attach to a competitor's mark.
- Scrape or enumerate. Attempt to enumerate our trademark / verdict corpus, the calibration set, the feature store, or the sound-symbolism index. Aggressive probing of the rate limiter (concurrent IP rotation, free tier farming, headless-browser scripted submissions) counts as scraping.
- Resell raw verdict data. Repackage, re-host, or resell Etymolt verdicts outside the integration your contract or pricing tier authorizes.
- Reverse-engineer the engine. Build a competing verifier by submitting queries designed to map decision boundaries, extract feature weights, or fingerprint the scoring model.
- Use for malicious purposes. Probe for vulnerabilities (outside our security disclosure program at security@etymolt.com), upload malicious payloads, attempt SSRF / SQLi / XSS, or run any code intended to degrade service for other customers.
- Use for illegal purposes. Any use that violates applicable law in your jurisdiction or ours (Delaware / California), including sanctioned-country access, money laundering, or processing personal data without a lawful basis.
- Submit data you don't have the right to submit. The candidate name you query, the email you sign up with, and any annotations you attach must be data you are entitled to process.
§3 Consequences
Depending on severity and reversibility, we may take one or more of these actions:
- Warning. An email asking you to stop, with a 7-day cure window.
- Rate-limit tightening. Reduced QPS or monthly quota on the offending API key.
- Suspension. Temporary lockout pending investigation, typically 7-14 days.
- Termination. Permanent account closure and Stripe Radar block. Pre-paid balance refunded on request unless the conduct caused us measurable harm.
- Disclosure. Where the conduct is illegal or threatens others, we reserve the right to disclose to law enforcement, the affected platform, or the rights holder.
We will give you written notice and a chance to respond before terminating, except where immediate action is needed to protect the service, our customers, or a third party.
§4 Reporting abuse
If you believe someone is using Etymolt in violation of this policy, email abuse@etymolt.com with:
- The verdict ID(s) or behavior you're reporting
- What category of prohibited use applies (§2 above)
- Any supporting evidence (URLs, screenshots, dates)
- Your contact info if you'd like a response
We acknowledge abuse reports within 2 business days and close them within 14 days. Rights-holders with trademark claims should also see /terms §Intellectual property.
§5 Changes
Material changes to this AUP are announced via email to account holders 30 days in advance. Non-material clarifications may be made at any time and are reflected in the “Last updated” date.
